I’m going back to long-form, slower ways to express myself.

I recently found my old blog from 10-15 years ago. It was on Blogger (blogspot.com). Natsukashii~

The problem is that I’m tired of the “immediacy” of things. Everything is optimized for being available immediately.

  • You can buy almost anything on the planet and have them delivered to your door in just a couple hours.
  • There’s a song that your favorite musician just made, and you can listen to them almost immediately. You can even pre-save!
  • There’s a book you want to read, a movie you want to watch, and they can be available within minutes!!!

We are so wired to have our needs and wants being met almost immediately.

I feel sad thinking about it.

Growing up in the 90s, I still remember the time before “the Internet”. The time when I had to go to a DVD rental store to rent a movie. When I had to bike to a manga rental place and wait in line to read the manga. The time when I had to wait for my parents to finish their calls to call my boyfriend in middle school.

It was when devices were very “communal”. My family had 1 computer, 1 telephone, and we shared them to fulfill some of our needs.

Maybe the problem is that we have our own device now? We don’t have to rely on other people to have our needs met.

On this topic, I was also thinking about how “independent” I have been since I started living by myself again. Seriously, thanks to the Internet, I don’t have to rely on other people. But it’s nice to rely on other people sometimes… I like the feeling of relying on someone for something, as well as the feeling of being relied on.

Some of my biggest needs are to express myself and be seen and understood. (Why though?)

Anyways, I think I started developing too much expectation on the immediacy of things. When I don’t get the things I want almost right away, I get irritated and disappointed. It’s not healthy.

So starting today, besides work and basic communications, I want to try expressing myself in a more “delayed” way. I’m already tired of Instagram so it’d be good to express myself through blogging instead.
